The head-on crash in Westhampton occurred around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 on County Road 31 by Gabreski Airport.

According to Lt. Susan Ralph, of the Southampton Police, an investigation revealed that a 2020 Chevy Traverse with four occupants, including a 2-week-old child, was traveling southbound on Country Road 31 when it collided with a 2006 Honda Pilot with one occupant.

The Traverse overturned after the collision, and all four occupants could exit the vehicle, Ralph said.

The driver of the Honda Pilot was trapped, and Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded to assist in removing the victim from the vehicle, she added. The person was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital with serious injuries.

Westhampton Beach and Flanders Volunteer Ambulances responded to transport two of the victims from the Traverse, including the driver, and the 9-year-old to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Ralph said.

The third adult and the baby were unharmed, she added.
